"Cavemen March NY Streets, 2010"
The Grants Pass High School Marching Band & Auxiliary was selected to be one of 10 bands in the 2010 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade out of more than 150 applicants nationwide. Their superior musical ability, marching and performance skills won them a slot in the legendary Parade that will see them step into the line of march on Thursday, November 25, 2010.
For more than 80 years, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade has marked the official start of the holiday season. Growing in size and scale, the Parade proudly marches down a 2.8-mile route in New York City with more than 8,000 participants in tow including Macy's employees, their families, celebrities, athletes, clowns and dance groups spreading holiday cheer. With a television audience of approximately 50 million viewers across the country and more than 3.5 million spectators that line up along the streets of New York City each year, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is a national icon that has grown into a world-famous holiday event. Featuring fabulous floats and Macy's signature giant helium character balloons, the Parade's musical heart comes from its high school and college marching bands.
The road to New York City begins now, but the band will have months to prepare for the big day. Marked by fundraisers and rehearsals, the months of hard work will culminate on Thanksgiving Day as the band steps off from 77th Street and Central Park West and into history.
